Success
Dear WAHS
Leslie,
I have been trying to make money at
home with affiliate programs and business ops without success. Each thing I join
I'm told to market my website and follow all the instructions for classified
ads, search engine listings, and other recommendations. But nothing seems to
work. I have read about Google Ad Words and Oveture but I don't have extra money
to spend on that. Is there a way to make money on the internet without spending
$100's? Sarah in NC
Hi Sarah,
Good for you to recognize that
marketing is the key to your success. So many people begin their work-at-home
ventures without a thought to the importance of marketing. It takes more than an
ad and a flyer. In fact, since marketing is so important, you should have a
detailed marketing plan that includes marketing activities to do
everyday.

Ask WAHS: Finding Legitimate Home Business or Job
Hi
Leslie,
I am now a stay at
home mom and would like to find something to do in my spare time while the kids
are in school. I also want it to be legitimate. A few years back
there was a business that you could do at home selling greeting cards, gifts,
etc. Is there anything along those lines still out there? I want to
be able to do this mainly from home and not have to travel around due to that I
have to be here when the kids get out of school. On the other hand I am
also looking for either typing/data entry or billing. I am not having much
success in finding any information unless I have to pay out a lot of money to
end up at a dead end. I don't have alot to pay out for start up and then
have it be a dead end. I can not afford to waste money. I am willing
to pay out start up cost if in fact it is legitimate and working. Can you
help. - Ginger Warnick

Telecommuting Truths Revealed
Telecommuting
Truths Revealed
Hi Leslie,
I have been
trying to find a legitimate work from home job for some time now so that I can
stay home with my children. Everything I find that would be perfect for me seems
to be a scam. The jobs that seem real require special equipment, more experience
than I have got or don't pay an hourly wage or salary. Are there jobs out there
for me? Rebecca from WA
Hi
Rebecca,
Its
unfortunate that the scammer and schemers have created the idea that people can
work at home doing menial work for huge pay. If it were true, we'd meet people
doing this kind of work, but when was the last time you met anyone getting paid
$400 a week stuffing envelopes? Millions of people do telecommute from home and
its possible that you can too. But first you need to understand the truth about
telecommuting. (Click heading or "read on" for the complete

Ask WAHS Leslie: Getting Spouse Suppor to Work-At-Home Getting Spouse
Support for your Business
Dear
Leslie,
I would like to work at home
but my husband always comes up with reasons why each thing I want to do is a bad
idea. How do other people get support from their husbands so they can work at
home? Diane, NM
Dear
Diane,
I have been fortunate that
my endeavors have always been supported by my husband so I'm always surprised at
how often I hear of people who don't support their spouses dreams. I have talked
to many people who want to work at home and then say to me, "I have to talk it
over with my husband (or wife)." I'm all for decisions being made as a couple
but I find it odd that only one is involved in the info gathering while the
other seems to have the power to say "yes" or "no" without having participated
in the info gathering. I have this impression that women are telling their husbands, "I want to
work at home," and the husbands are saying "Yes, dear." But when she finally
takes the step, and reality hits, husbands pull back. "Whoa! Where are you going
to find the time?", "What if you fail?", "What is this thing you sent our hard
earned money to?" (I should add here that I know this happens to husbands too
who'd like to start a home business but their wives don't support it.)

Ask Wahs Leslie - Balance Work and FamilyHi Leslie,
I have finally fulfilled my
dream of working at home but I'm finding it very hard to get my work done and
still have time for my family. I thought working at home would make it easy for
me to be flexible but I'm finding myself telling my kids "not now" a lot. Any
suggestions? Debbie, MI
Hi Debbie,
When we begin to dream about
working at home, the work part is often the last thing we think about. Instead
we imagine sleeping in late, wearing our pajamas all day, watching Barney with
the kids then going to the park, keeping the laundry folded and so on. But the
reality is having enough time is a factor while working at home. Working at home
doesn't really add time to your schedule. You may save on commuting but other
than that, you are still left with only 24 hours in a day. Parents then try to
add to that by putting quality time for the home and family. When do you have
time to work?

Get Hired
to a Telecommuting Job
Dear
Leslie,
Thanks for the
great info on finding legitimate work. I have been applying of lots
of jobs but I never hear anything back from the companies. Is that
usual? Jack MN
Dear
Jack,
Its not uncommon
to hear nothing from companies to which you apply for a job.
However, if you are applying to many jobs without a single response,
you should evaluate what you are submitting to make sure you aren't
getting weeded out. Here are some tips to increase your appeal to
potential employers.
1) Tailor your
resume or application specifically to the job. The best way to
do this is to have a general resume with all your experience, skills
and education. Then just tweak it to focus on the information that
best fits the job. In your cover letter you will want to focus on
this job specific information as well. This doesn't mean you should
leave out information. Instead, bring attention to your skills and
experience that specifically meet the needs of the job.
2) Read the
directions given by the employer. Some job announcements have
several steps you are required to make. Be sure you do each step to
the best of your ability. Don't leave out steps and don't
underestimate the importance of each step.
3) Don't annoy
employers and don't call them if they specifically ask you not to.
Again follow the directions. After a week or two (a week following
the application deadline), it would be acceptable to send an email
to follow-up.
4) Submit a
professional resume or application. Use correct grammar and
spelling. Refer to the employer in a professional manner, by name if
you can. Don't write in an informal manner such as saying "Hi" or
using Internet code such as "LOL".
5) Limit your
resume to one page. Use 12 pt font size. Avoid fancy fonts and
formats as not all computers can decipher special fonts or formats.
Send the resume in the body of your email. NEVER send your resume as
an attachment unless asked to do so.
6) Don't list
skills or experiences that are unrelated to the position. Don't
exaggerate or falsify your information. Also, avoid personal
information such as marital status or age.
7) Don't sound
desperate. Companies are looking for the best person for the job.
Your financial situation or level of desperation will more likely
hurt your chances of getting the job.
8) Research the
company if you can. Visit its website and learn what the company is
all about. What is its product or service? Where is it located? Does
it have many remote workers? The more you know about the company,
the more can tailor your resume or application to the company's
needs (see #1) as well as appear knowledgeable about the company. I
can assure you, few people really research companies before
applying. Speaking with knowledge about the company to a potential
employer shows that you have done your research.
Work-at-home
jobs are prevalent but the market is competitive. The best way to
get a response is to submit high quality resumes that show you are
the most qualified for the job.

Telecommuting Jobs are PrevalentTelecommuting Jobs are
Prevalent
Dear Leslie,
Do people really work at home in jobs. How does one find these
jobs? Joe, MN
Dear Joe,
Over 24 million
Americans worked from home as an employee for at least 1 day per week in 2004
according to the International Telework Association and Council (ITAC). So why is it that thousands of people
waste millions of dollars each year on work-at-home scams? The reason is because
people don’t understand telecommuting. When people search for a traditional job,
they search the classified ads based on their education, skills and experience.
They submit professional applications and wait anxiously for an interview. But
for some reason, when they want a work-at-home job, they search for some company
that will let them sign up to lick envelopes. The truth is, telecommuting jobs
are exactly like traditional jobs; they are just done at home.
Here are some important
“rules” to finding a work-at-home job.
1) Recognize that you
won’t get paid to lick envelops, glue bird houses, process email or any of the
common work-at-home scams. When was the last time you met someone who got paid
to lick envelopes? If those “jobs” are so lucrative, how come we never meet
people who actually do them?
2) Never pay money for
a work-at-home job. Legitimate employers never charge money to put you on
payroll or to supply you with materials to do the job.
3) Take inventory of
your skills and experience. Employers are looking for employees who can fill a
specific job and won’t take just anyone.
4) Prepare a quality
resume and always interact with potential employers in a professional manner.
You have one chance to impress an employer and position yourself over the 100’s
even 1000’s of other applicants.
5) Search for jobs
where jobs are posted. Online job search sites and classifieds are good
resources though scams and biz ops do get posted on these sites so learn to
recognize a legitimate job from the scam…hint: asking for money for a job is a
clue to a scam.
6) Don’t be afraid to
invest in education, a quality job search service, or resume assistance. This is
not buying a job but paying for services that can increase your odds of finding
and obtaining a job.
7) Commit time to the
search and application process each day.
There are 1000’s of
legitimate jobs posted right now. Using the seven rules above you can find and
obtain a job and join the 24 million people telecommuting
today.

Tips to Guarantee Work-At-Home Success
Tips to
Guarantee Work-At-Home Success
Dear WAHS
Leslie,
I read somewhere that
almost all small businesses fail. How can one find success with such dismal
statistics? Karen, MT
Hi
Karen,
Your question really
is, If its true that 80 to 90% of businesses fail, then what is the 10 to 20%
doing to get it right? I have met many people who blame everything from the
work-at-home program, their spouse, the economy and the weather for a failed
business. But success is not a matter of luck or circumstance. There is a
difference between successful home workers and those who never make
it.
People who are
successfully working at home….
1)
Choose their work-at-home opportunity wisely. People who work at home DO
NOT stuff envelopes, assemble things, process email or “get paid to” read ads.
None have signed-up and gotten paid from spillover. Successful home workers do
real work whether in a job or home business. They researched the companies and
verified claims before sending any money. They are not swayed by easy money or
crazy claims. They fully understand what is required to be successful in their
work-at-home venture.
2)
Are prepared to work hard and steady. It’s an odd thing that “working at
home” is not actually equated with work. Signing up and sending $20 a month to
an Internet scheme will not make you rich. Neither will stuffing envelopes or
gluing earrings. While many home workers may not work more hours than a
traditional job (although many do), they definitely put more mental energy into
their work. There is no just showing up and getting paid like at a job. Further
they are clear on “busy” work versus “effective” work. They don’t play office
but instead prioritize their tasks in terms of what will lead to income the
fastest.
3)
Understand the payoff maybe delayed. There are people in the world who
set out to work at home and within 30 days are earning great incomes. But for
most people, developing a regular income can take anywhere from 6 months to 2
years. Successful home workers prepare their schedules and finances in such as
way as to survive until their venture makes money. They also develop a very
strong “why”, a reason to want to be successful so that they will be motivated
to continue the effort for free until the money comes.
4)
Keep in mind the alternative to success. While keeping an eye on the
prize (what will be won get when success is achieved), remembering what happens
in failure can be motivating too. Having a JOB, sending kids to daycare, long
commutes, no time for friends, family or personal interests can be a driving
force to keep trying as well.
5)
Stay away from the naysayers. Successful people never listen to anyone
who doesn’t already have what they want. Why people listen to others who as
unhappy and broke as they are I don’t know. First of all, most naysayers don’t
know what they are talking about. Second, they don’t want you to succeed because
it will make them look bad. They’d rather live in their settled lives of quiet
desperation wishing for luck or the lottery than step out and do something
challenging to change it. Successful people stick with other successful people
or at least with those who are supportive to their efforts.
6)
Are willing to pay the price. I get email all the time from people who
really want to work at home. They send me a long list of what they won’t do
without ever mentioning what they can do. Success cannot be achieved without
work and even discomfort. You may have to learn to talk to people or other tasks
that may be hard. The price is also paid by giving up some personal time such as
leisure reading or golf. Successful people give up their leisure activities
until they have achieved success. Then they spend the majority of their time on
leisure activities. In essence, to be successful, you need to be willing to
sacrifice and attempt challenging tasks now so that you can have all the time
and fun you want later.
7)
Make a plan. Successful people don’t rely on chance or luck to get them
to their goal. They know exactly where they want to be in terms of money amount
and the date on which they will get it. They are clear each minute they have to
work on their venture what tasks need to be done to move them towards their
goal. Not only are plans a requirement but they have the additional benefit of
making your journey to your goal shorter and faster.
8)
Never give up. What if Edison gave up after 100 or 1000 or 2999 tries in
creating the light bulb? What if Lincoln gave up after is first business failed,
or his second. Or when he lost the congressional elections…twice? How many
people before Edison did quit when trying to invent the light bulb? Or how many
dirt poor, not formally educated, gangly men quit their dreams before Lincoln
(or since then for that matter). We think successful people are smarter or
luckier than everyone else when the truth is, they just never quit trying. They
learn from every mistake and drive through every challenge and disappointment.
Success is actually achieved in that moment you try again instead of walking
away.
I truly believe
everyone who wants to work at home can. But not everyone is willing to do what
it takes. Usually these people blame the business opportunities, the scammers,
the economy, other people, the weather…etc. But there are hundreds of thousands
of stories about average men and women who made the decision to work-at-home and
with a never give up attitude and a willingness to pay the price, are living a
life of their creation. How about you? You can have that two. All you need to do
is follow the above eight tips.

Ask WAHS: Work-At-Home Jobs Not Requiring a Computer
|
Are there
work-at-home jobs not requiring a computer?
Dear
Leslie, My elderly friend does not have a computer yet. Are there
any reputable companies (like market researchers) who don't require
a home computer? I realize that he'd probably need to email the
company regularly. He could use mine until he gets his own, but not
on a daily basis.
Sincerely, Michelle L
Hi
Michelle,
Today the
computer has become an integral part of the work-at-home job. Even
many survey/research companies that rely on the telephone require a
computer to input answers to research questions and other data. With
that said, I do feel certain that there is work your friend could do
that doesn't require a computer. There may be sales and
telemarketing jobs that don't require a computer. Also, what are his
other skills and experience? What are his interests and hobbies? He
may be able to translate those areas into a job.
Some
sources for finding jobs online would be the job search sites. I
have a list of sites I like plus some information on how to them here. Try searching your local want-ads for jobs
that could be done at home. Many smaller, local companies are open
to the idea of telecommuting if presented to them in a way that
benefits the company. Finally, you may want to see if you can find a
copy of Lynnie Arden's The Work-At-Home Sourcebook. I'm not a big fan of
company lists, but for a list of companies that outsource, use home
workers or offer home businesses, this is best I have
found.
Do stay
away from envelope stuffing and assembly work and any other program
that makes it sound like for a couple of bucks you can have a "job".
I have never met anyone making money at those things.
Good luck
to your friend!

Untapped Telecommuting ResourcesUntapped
Telecommuting Resources
© 2005 Leslie Truex
The Internet has
made working at home easier and more accessible to people. It allows companies
to hire the very best workers regardless of where they live. But often, people
who are looking for these jobs fail to tap into one of the best telecommuting
job resources: the local community. In fact, premium telecommuting positions are
more likely to be found in small local businesses. These jobs include the highly
coveted typing or data entry work, office support, and customer service
jobs.
Here are some tips to finding or creating a work-at-home job
in your own backyard.
1) Internet- The Internet is a fantastic resource
for finding local work IF you know where to look and how to avoid scams. To find
local telecommuting jobs, stick to job searches in your local area. Most job
search sites such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com give you the option
search by state and even city; however, a better bet is to use job search sites
that are specific to your area. My very favorite site for finding telecommuting
jobs in specific communities is Craigslist.org. Choose a city and then the “Job”
search function. Craigslist.org even has a box you can check to search only
“Telecommuting” jobs. Most telecommuting jobs posted on Craiglist.org require a
local resident but still give the flexibility of working at home. You still need
to watch out for scams and biz ops disguised as jobs. Remember, there is never a
fee for legitimate employment.
2) Local Classifieds – Although you
aren’t likely to find jobs advertised as “telecommuting” in your local
newspaper, local classified ads are still a good resource for finding
work-at-home jobs. Look for jobs in your “help wanted” classified ads that you
are capable of doing that could also be done from home. Prepare a resume and
cover letter, as you would for any job however, propose a telecommuting option
(see proposal below) as part of your submission. Beware of ads with 800# and as
always, if there is a fee, its not a job.
3) Yellow Pages – The very
best telecommuting position I ever got was found through the yellow pages. My
background is in social work and when my sister told me her adoption social
worker was a contact worker I thought, “I could do that.” I used my phonebook
yellow pages to find adoption agencies in my area. I mailed a resume and cover
letter outlining a work-at-home proposal to eight adoption agencies in my state.
One contacted and hired me. You could do the same for your area of
expertise.
The key to getting a local company to consider a
home-based worker is to focus on the benefits telecommuting offers the employer.
Employers don’t care about your childcare hassles or commute. If you can show
them that they get more for their money, then you will have an active
listener.
When you write, send your resume but include a cover letter
that not only outlines your skills but also the benefits of
telecommuting.
Here are some areas to cover:
1) Outline your qualities
and experience that would make you a good candidate for the job.
2) List the benefits of
telecommuting including increased productivity, savings on real estate and
equipment savings, and decreased absenteeism and burnout.
3) Detail any cost savings
the arrangement may offer such as reduced benefits. Some companies are eligible
for government funding based on their telecommuting programs. Research federal
and state incentives available to companies for encouraging telecommuting.
4) List any equipment or
resources you currently have available such as second phone line, computer,
manuals etc.
5) Indicate how you can be
contacted (phone, fax, etc).
6) Include information on
how you will deal with meetings, deadlines, office activities and
emergencies.
Be sure to follow-up your letter with a phone
call.
Telecommuting is growing significantly. Small, local based
companies are at the forefront of this growth. You can tap into this great
resource of home-based jobs by using the ideas and strategies above to create
your own telecommuting arrangement.

There’s No Reason You Can’t Work At Home: Don't let these 5 Excuses Hold You Back
© 2006 Leslie Truex
I greatly admire
people who succeeded at working at home before the Internet. These people truly
desired the flexibility and freedom of working at home because they were willing
to do hard things like talk to people to get business. They didn’t get
discouraged that they were limited to working only in their area unless they
were willing to place ads in distant newspapers and snail mail their products.
Somehow they found the money to advertise their business and invest in expensive
call in center services because free promotion and voicemail wasn’t an option.

Work-At-Home Success News: Avoid Deception in a Home Based Business OpportunityHere is an article on how to research and investigate the claims made by home
based business opportunities.
Avoid Deception in a Home Based Business
Opportunity
(C) 2006
Leslie Truex
As a home
based business owner, I read many home business magazines. The other day I was
reading one and came across an ad for a home based business opportunity.
The ad included a list of 16 companies, how they ranked in US sales in
August 2005, how long each has been in business and how many products each had.
Because I have a home based business with a business opportunity, I looked to
see if my company was on the list. Sure enough it was there, BUT the number of
products listed was wrong...by over 200! That made me wonder what other errors
were on the list? And then I wondered about the person running the ad. Did he
know he was wrong? Did he skew the data on purpose to deceive people into
joining with him? Where did he get the data in the first place? Finally I
wondered how many people were responding to this ad without researching to see
if the information in the ad was correct?
Advertising is
about attracting new customers. To this end, ads are sometimes mistaken or
outright deceptive. Its up to you, as a business opportunity seeker to research
claims before you join so that you know exactly what you’re getting involved
in.
Here are my
four tips for researching a home based business opportunity claims:
1)
Verify claims. Home based business opportunities frequently use hype and
grandiose claims to entice you. However, not all of them tell the truth. When I
knew I wanted to build a residual income, I verified all the claims programs
made before joining. The company I eventually joined said it was in the BBB, so
I checked its BBB online. It said it was INC Magazine's Hall of Fame, so I
checked with INC Magazine. It said it received a BBB Hall of Fame award, so I
contacted the BBB and got verification. You need to make the same
checks. The Internet makes it easy to verify claims if the program gives
you enough information. For example, if the program says it was featured in a
news story, you can use the Internet to go to the newspaper, magazine or TV
station's site. Many archive their features. If not, you can write the editor or
producer and ask about the feature. In fact, you want to get a copy of it to
verify the feature was positive about the company. Third party endorsements or
awards are a good sign, but be sure the company has actually earned them by
going to source.
2) Verify research. This is similar to number one, but
is related to products. Many will say their products improve health or decrease
illness. You want them to prove it. While customer testimonial is nice, what you
really want is research particularly if the products are in the health and
wellness field. The same is true if the home based business opportunity uses
other research to back it’s claims. For example, it might say, "studies show
grape seed extract improves heart health." What you want to find out is what
studies? Where can you find them and read them yourself? If the company's
materials or website don't indicate what studies it used, ask. The company
I chose always puts a citation so we can go read the study ourselves. I
like this because it’s unlikely it has skewed the study results to fit its own
agenda. But, you can only know this if you verify that its using the research
correctly.
3) Search the web for personal stories. People love to
complain and let you know their horror stories with home based business
opportunities. These offer some great insights into people's experiences.
However, it is important that you recognize that people frequently are the cause
of their own pain because they didn’t do steps 1 and 2. So as you read different
forums or sites like RipOff Report, read the complaints AND the responses from
people who like the program. If there are no responses from people who like the
program, that's your answer. But if some people hate the home based business
opportunity while others love it, figure out what's going on for the people that
hate it and what's working for the people who love it. The best example I can
give is that people who don't like the program I'm involved with complain about
getting and paying for items they didn't order. They say the company shouldn't
do that; however, it’s clear on the paperwork or online enrollment that there is
an auto-order system. It even tells them how to stop the order. So anyone who
complains about this aspect clearly didn't read what they signed and that's
their fault not the company's. This is the type of information you need to
decipher. Are the complaints legitimate and how have others been able to avoid
the pitfalls?
4) Read the fine print. As you can see from my last
example, it is extremely important to read what you sign or agree to. While we
like to think most people who will enroll you will be honest, not all are.
Companies do their best to terminate dishonest people because it ruins their
name, but it can take time. So it's really up to you to ask questions and don't
sign anything without reading the agreement. If you aren't sure you're getting a
straight answer, call the company directly and ask. Some things to look for are:
1) Refund policy. Don't just check that it has a refund policy. You also
want to find out what it takes to exercise it. Some companies make it nearly
impossible to get your money back. Some companies require you to mail them
in writing, not email or phone or fax; 2) Are there quotas or other requirements
necessary to get a check? 3) Is there an autoship and how does it work? 4) What
is expected of you including any restrictions?
After 8 years of working
at home, I believe home based business opportunities offer a great way for
people to work at home. But just like cars, some are lemons. The best way to
avoid being scammed or misled is to do your research and make sure you fully
understand what's involved in working with a home based business
opportunity.

earning a full or part-time income, often end up making nothing. To help, Truex
is offering a free work-at-home teleseminar titled "Affiliate Income Success"
that will cover:
- How to decide what types of affiliate programs you should
offer
- How to use a website or blog to promote your affiliate
programs
- How to use free or low cost tools to drive more traffic and
get more affiliate sales.
- How to avoid the pitfalls in affiliate marketing such as not
getting paid or affiliate stealing.
- And more.
Participants will come away a list of ideas and enough tools to
implement an affiliate income system right away.
Unlike regular seminars in which guests must drive to the event,
a teleseminar is held over the phone so participants can learn about working
online from the comfort of their homes. To join in, they simply dial in the
teleconference call phone number and a special access code they receive after
they register. There is no cost to attend the teleseminar, but long distance
phone charges may apply. Truex has some phone saving suggestions on her
website's Teleseminar FAQ section.
The teleseminar will be held March 22, 2007 at 9 pm eastern.
Attendance is free, but registration is required. To learn more about the
Affiliate Income Success Teleseminar visit Truex's website at: http://www.workathomesuccess.com/work-at-home-teleseminars.html

[New Topic]I receive email everyday asking me what the "best"
home business option is. The answer is the one that you will do. With that
said, I have compiled a small list of home business ideas I like. The list is
not exhaustive and in fact is limited to only those business that can be done
100% from home and mostly (99.99% of the time) online because that is the criteria I used when I wanted to
work at home. If I had to start over
today, these are business I would start.
Copywriting: If I
had truly understood the copywriting industry; how lucrative it is and how easy
it is to get started, I'd be a copywriter today. Every week I find jobs posted
online for freelance copywriters to create sales, letters, ads, brochures,
articles, web content and more. You don't need an English or Marketing degree to
be a copywriter. Pick up books copywriting books by Robert Bly or Dan Kennedy
and
how to build a copywriting business by Steve Slaunwhite (you can listen
to my interview with Steve at WAHS
Expo) or Robert Bly.
If you are really serious about copywriting, consider AWAI's Six Figure Copywriting
Course. Its
excellent.
Virtual Assistant: The
chances of you getting hired to type at home is virtual nil, unless you are a
virtual assistant. VA's are cyber secretaries or administrative assistants who
do everything traditional secretaries do except get coffee. They transcribe
documents, check email, make appointments, order supplies, post web content,
write and/or edit written documents, provide customer service, and a whole lot
more. While the number of VA jobs is growing, your best bet for success is to
start a VA business. I recommend Nell Talercio's resources on How to Become a
VA. You can check
out my interview with Nell on becoming a VA at WAHS Expo.
Turning Interests Into Income: One of the
fastest, cheapest and easiest ways to earn an income online is to use your
knowledge and influence to help others. Do you know about organic gardening in
the snow? Create a website and newsletter with information on this. Offer an
ebook? Find companies with tools and resources for organic snow gardening to
recommend on your site. Use Google's Adsense to earn income through advertisers.
When your site is big, offer ad space. The key to success is to have helpful
content, credibility, and a marketing plan. I recommend Rosalind Gardner's
Super Affiliate Handbook to learn step-by-step how to turn
what you know or like to do into cash online.
Network marketing: Nothing seems to strike fear
into the hearts of would-be home business owners like the words network
marketing. While some of its reputation is earned, a great deal of what people
think they know or understand about network marketing is wrong. Slowly, the
industry is gaining acceptance. Check out books in the financial section of your
books store and odds are you are going to find several by well-known gurus
(David Back of Finish Rich, Loral Langemeier or Millionaire Maker, Trump, Janet
Switzer of Instant Income) who suggest network marketing or direct sales as a
viable, affordable way to make money from home. These opportunities are
especially appealing because they allow people to build residual income. With
company retirement plans all but eliminated and the future of social security
bleak, people need a way to leverage their time and money. Network marketing is
the most affordable, family-friendly way of doing that. The key is to choose a
reputable company with products and services you like. Further, it should be web
friendly. Check out my article on Choosing a Home Business Opportunity for guidelines on selecting a safe,
profitable network marketing opportunity as well my article on avoiding biz op deception.
Sell your
skills: Can you bookkeep, write, design websites, or provide
other web friendly services? Just like copywriting and VA services, you can
market a skill you have.
Sell Your Stuff: Do you make terrific beaded
jewelry? Have you invented the next great-mommy-helper gizmo? Do you know a good
deal at a yard sale that can reap rewards with collectors? Besides affiliate
programs, auction sites such as eBay has helped millions of people make money at
home selling their junk, homemade items, or rare finds. Its easy to get started
simply by selling unused or unwanted stuff around you home. If you're looking to
grow a healthy income from auctions, I do recommend you read any of the many
books available on building a successful auction site
business.
Sell other peoples stuff: This is affiliate
marketing and is related to turning your interests into income outlined above.
If there is a product or service you love, check its site to see if it has an
affiliate program. Success online entrepreneurs make their money because they
truly love and are passionate about the products or services they sell or
recommend. Again, I like Rosalind Gardener's Super Affiliate Handbook for all the information and
tools you'll need to be a successful affiliate marketer.
